The Ventriloquists are back.

Ventriloquists speak without moving their lips, yet their voices are clearly heard. The ventriloquist is a paradox. S/he communicates in the liminal zone. Showing or telling, they invite imagination and attentiveness. Soundings over themes and messages.

Created in 2020 by artist-scholar Dr. Linda C.H. Lai to show the artistic experiments of BA students in Narrative Strategies (a core course for BACM students at SCM), the 2021 edition returns with 36 works at the Singing Waves Gallery. We want to open up the discussion of why narrative concepts are central to artistic creation in a data-conscious milieu.

“The Ventriloquists: Thinking Narratively 2021” is a sight-and-sound assemblage, a constellation of video dreamwork, thought paths as collage and montage sequences, visual analysis of well-known moving image works as pictograms, generative video and creative writing, and prototypes of game worlds…

Each work is a world of its own, together they form a carnivalesque clash of countenances.

36個作品合體為星群，微聲合宏亮的協奏，不分主副：夢式的敘事，挑戰線性的歧路花園。圖像併湊，聲影蒙太奇，似動畫非動畫，另類邏輯。圖像數據分析名作，地圖、樂譜、故事板通通挪用。

Online Pre-registration for non-CityU visitors is required. To visit CMC on Saturday or Sunday, please note that you must pre-register 2 working days before the appointment. Online registration will be closed on every Friday 5pm.

The above visitor registration link is for enter Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre only.

All visitors entering the university campus must be pre-registered via CityU's Visitor Registration System (VRS). The VRS can be accessed via "Office Admin" under AIMS by departmental staff who has the VRS access privilege. Pre-registration submission will be sent to our staff for register the above VRS. 

Once the visitor's information has been submitted via the VRS, an email attached with a specific QR code from "CityU-Visitor Registration System" will be sent to the visitor. The visitor must show the QR code to the duty guard at CMC entrance on the day of the visit. After confirmation, the visitor will be given a label which is valid for the day.

CityU staff and students don't need to register for visit the exhibition. Please tap your staff or student card by placing it on the sensor mark of turnstile top for entry.

Temperature scanning at campus entrance and facemasks are mandatory for all admitted visitors, staff and students. Special arrangements will be implemented in line with the latest restrictions under the Prevention and Control of Disease Ordinance.

當來訪者的信息通過VRS提交後，一封附有特定QR碼的電子郵件將發送給來訪者。訪客必須在訪問當天向創意媒體中心出入口的保安人員出示二維碼。經確認後，參觀者將獲得一個當日有效的訪客標貼入內。

城大職員及學生參觀展覽毋須登記訪客登記系統。只須於大堂出入口的電子入閘機掃描職員證或學生證便可進入創意媒體中心。

所有進入校園的訪客、城大職員及學生必須在校園門口進行體溫掃瞄，並佩戴口罩。大學將根據《預防及控制疾病條例》的最新限制作出特別安排。參觀安排如有更改，請留意本校網站及社交媒體的最新資訊。
