The SCM Annual is our comprehensive graduation show, featuring work in a variety of media, mainly from our interdisciplinary BA, BAS and BSc programmes, curated and organised by a new committee with new student members each year.

Introduction 引言
SCM Annual 2024 focuses on the concept of negative space, it presents the invisible and inexpressible influences that exist around the artists, thereby attempting to delineate the contours of participating students.
Words are of abstraction. Media arts, within its limited resolution, liberates our imagination.
本屆年度展主題藉負空間的概念，呈現創作者身旁看不見、甚至不可言狀的影響，從而試圖刻劃出各位參展同學的集體輪廓。
言詞皆抽象，媒體藝術在有限的解像度裏，解放想像。

Abstract:
Internationally acclaimed animation artist Ellis Ka-yin Chan and three SCM alumni, Henry Chu, Sing Lau and Sally Tsoi Yuk-yan will share invaluable insights on overseas study, career development, and the unique challenges and opportunities for animators in Hong Kong. Before the discussion, we will preview the "Monsoon Blue", winner of the Best Animated Short Film at the 60th Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival.
About the Speakers:
Ellis Ka-yin CHAN (@elliscky) is an internationally acclaimed animation artist who has achieved remarkable success on the global stage. After honing his craft at the prestigious Gobelins School from 2016 to 2018, CHAN's exceptional talents have been widely recognized around the world. His accolades include the Animation Category Gold Award at the 29th ifva Awards, the Best Animated Short Film honour at the prestigious Golden Horse Film Festival and the Best Animated Short Film award and Grand Prix in DigiCon6 Asia for his co-directed debut short film "Monsoon Blue" (夏夢迴). Demonstrating his versatility and impact, CHAN has also lent his skills as a lead animator on the acclaimed Netflix animated feature "Lost in Starlight." Furthering his global reach, he has worked in film and animation for renowned studios and productions, including Wes Anderson, Universal Pictures, The Line Studio, Glassworks, Sauvagetv, Marvel, and Riot Game. With his growing list of prestigious international awards and collaborations, Ellis Ka-yin CHAN has firmly established himself as a rising global force in the world of animation.
Henry Chu (@henrychu1990), the visionary co-founder of the esteemed creative studio 3JBK, is a true master of visual effects and computer-generated imagery, with over 8 years of distinguished experience in the film and video industry that has propelled him to the forefront of his field. After graduating from the prestigious City University of Hong Kong in 2013, Chu has lent his exceptional skills to a wide array of high-profile projects, including stage designs for acclaimed artist Hins Cheung's concerts, captivating music videos for the popular Hong Kong girl group Collar, and cutting-edge advertisements for prominent companies such as Prudential Hong Kong, showcasing his unparalleled ability to bring visions to life through his technical expertise and artistic vision, while as the co-founder of 叄沾百各3JBK, he has cultivated a thriving team of like-minded creatives, setting a new standard for innovation and excellence in the industry by seamlessly blending cutting-edge technology with boundless creativity to produce truly awe-inspiring work.
Sing Lau (@feebaslau) is a seasoned film virtuoso who captivates audiences with his exceptional talent and vision. After graduating from the prestigious City University of Hong Kong in 2018, he joined the esteemed Freed Workshop, where he has honed his craft for the past 6 years. During his tenure, Sing has lent his exceptional skills to approximately 15 films, including iconic Hong Kong classics like "Infernal Affairs 2" and the critically acclaimed "Anita." However, Sing's crowning achievement came with his work on the visually stunning "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In," a film that has cemented its place as the 1st highest-grossing Cantonese-language movie in the history of Hong Kong cinema, solidifying his reputation as a true master of his craft.
Sally Tsoi Yuk-yan (@tsoiyukyan) is a multifaceted creative powerhouse who seamlessly blends her artistic talents with a keen intellect and an impressive track record of achievements. After graduating from the City University of Hong Kong in 2019, Tsoi embarked on a remarkable journey, first securing the championship title at the prestigious Disney ImagiNations Hong Kong competition in 2017, showcasing her exceptional design skills and innovative thinking. She then completed an internship at the enchanting Disneyland Hong Kong, further honing her craft, before pursuing a prestigious 2-year master's program at the renowned Gobelins in France, where she refined her skills and expanded her creative vision. Upon her return to Hong Kong, Tsoi has made her mark, working on captivating exhibition and IP design projects, including concepts for the beloved franchises One Piece and Peppa Pig. Driven by her passion for the arts, Tsoi currently divides her time between teaching art part-time at Hong Kong Metropolitan University and taking on a diverse array of freelance art-related jobs, all while directing her own awe-inspiring animated films, firmly establishing herself as a rising star in the creative industry.

各位講者將分享他們在海外留學和發展成為職業動畫師的經驗，以及對香港動畫師面對的獨特挑戰及機遇的見解。此外在討論前會試映第六十屆台北金馬獎最佳動畫短片《夏夢迴》。
講者簡介:
Ellis Ka-yin CHAN 陳嘉言 (@elliscky)，一位備受國際讚譽的動畫藝術家，在2016-2018年期間於著名的Gobelins學校磨練技藝，成為頂尖動畫師之一。他的成就包括第29屆ifva金獎、金馬影展最佳動畫短片獎，以及參與導演的《夏夢迴》（2023）獲DigiCon6 Asia最佳動畫和大獎。他還擔任Netflix動畫長片《Lost in Starlight》的主要動畫師，並為多家知名工作室和製作公司工作過，包括Wes Anderson, Universal Pictures, The Line Studio, Glassworks, Sauvagetv, Marvel 和 Riot Game。
Henry Chu 朱沛鏗 (@henrychu1990) ， 視覺特效藝術家、創業家，有8年以上電影和影視行業經驗。自2013年城大畢業後，他創立了叄沾百各3JBK，參與過張敬軒和MC張天賦演唱會、Collar MV以及各大廣告製作。作為叄沾百各3JBK的共同創辦人，他帶領一支創意團隊，以創新和卓越的作品樹立新標準。
Sing Lau 劉啟聲 (@feebaslau)， 視覺特效和3D藝術家。2018年城大畢業後，他在FreeD Workshop磨練6年，參與約15部電影製作，包括經典《拆彈專家2》（2020）和備受好評的《梅艷芳》（2021）。他的代表作是視覺震撼的《九龍城寨之圍城》（2024），成為香港第一高票房粵語電影，鞏固了他在該領域的聲譽。
蔡玉茵(@tsoiyukyan)，概念設計師、美術教育者。2019年在香港城市大學畢業後，她先後獲得Disney ImagiNations香港競賽冠軍，完成香港迪士尼樂園實習，並在法國Gobelins攻讀碩士。回港後，她參與多個展覽和IP設計項目，包括為《海賊王》和《小豬佩奇》設計概念。目前她在都會大學兼職教授美術，同時接受各種藝術相關自由職業，並執導自己的動畫電影，確立了創意行業新秀的地位。

VISITOR ARRANGEMENTS
1. All visitors entering the University Campus must be pre-registered via the University's Visitor Registration System (VRS). The VRS can be accessed via Office Admin under AIMS by departmental staff who has the VRS access privilege.
2. Once the visitor's information has been submitted via the VRS, an email attached with a specific QR code from "CityU-Visitor Registration System" will be sent to the visitor. The visitor must show the QR code and may need to present his/her personal ID to the security staff at campus entrance on the day of the visit. After confirmation, the visitor will be given a label which is valid for the day.
3. For guests who haven’t received the above email with the QR code, please check your spam or junk email folder in case the email has been accidentally marked as spam.
4. One single email address cannot be shared with multiple visitors for registration on the same day.

6. For visits on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays, please online register at least 2 working days prior to your visit by 4pm.
7. No eating or drinking inside the gallery, multimedia theatre and lecture theatre.
8. The Presenter reserves the right to amend the visit requirements without prior notice and refuses any person from entering the venue. In the event of any discrepancy between the English and Chinese versions of this statement, the English version shall prevail.
