SCM Annual 2021 – Diaspora

Diaspora, the theme of this year's annual show, refers to dispersion and movement away from a particular location. The challenging circumstances of our modern world has created a diasporic spread across different areas, such as the fragmentation of societies, global information, and values. This changes the nature of persistence, and the way we understand it. Because of the diasporic spread on a technological level, information is eruptive and disseminated through the Internet, breaking boundaries bounded by regions and bringing people closer together as a result of globalization. Diasporization becomes inevitable.

Amidst these developments, we are urged to empower ourselves by broadening our ways of seeing, so that we may present our understanding of a fragmented world through a multifaceted lens. Even if we excel in different fields, we still share the same roots and belong to the same place.

This year's SCM Annual brings together the School of Creative Media's graduates works of class 2020 and 2021. It is a showcase to the passion and tenacity of such individuals that have powered through in the light of the pandemic, and created artworks that demonstrate a profound understanding of interdisciplinary practices. The artworks convey emotions and thoughts, and analyze our understanding and cognition of the world from the artist's aspects.

《離散》

今年年度展的主題是「離散 Diaspora」。離散，Diaspora，即以某點為中心出發並進行擴散的狀態。身處這個流動性極高的時代，社會的文化軌跡上充斥著「離散」：移民潮、難民危機、殖民主義等。這改變了存留的本質，更甚是我們如何理解它的方式。亦有賴科技層面上的「離散」，信息於互聯網上噴發傳播，無視地域的界限，拉近了人與人之間的距離。離散，已經是這個時代的大方向。

我們正在集體地脫離傳統給予我們固有的框架，不斷進步，踏入全新的領域。隨著變革的產生，新的想法得以孕育而生。我們的未來將會是充滿想像和無限的可能。透過在不同層面上的離散運動，體現出多元文化和自由。但，即使我們將向著不同的領域百花齊放，我們依然同根同源，歸屬於同一個地方。

創意媒體學院2021年度展匯聚了2019/20年度及2020/21年度的畢業生作品，展示各人在大流行病影響下實踐跨學科的創作熱情與努力堅毅。以人為本的創作，傳遞創作者的情感與思想，從多方面剖析我們對世界的理解和認知。

Film Preview

By invitation only. Online pre-registration is required for both CityU and non-CityU members at the links below.

There will be a 20/30-minute discussion and 10-minute break after each program.

All of the films are in Cantonese with Chinese and English subtitles EXCEPT "Liminality & The Full Stop That Never Came", which is in English with English subtitles and "MOM" has no dialogues.
