Created by Dr Agnieszka Golda and Dr Jo Law, artist-researchers from University of Wollongong, Australia (UOW), in collaboration with artist Martin Johnson, this exhibition brings together fields of art, design, materials science, paleoclimatology and filmmaking with philosophies of alchemy to explore the interconnectedness of Earth’s ecosystems.

The artists give life to these ecological narratives through experimental and advanced use of materials: silk, graphene, electronics, digital media, and climate data. The protagonists of these stories are those non-human things that can often be overlooked: the world’s oldest living tree the 5,000 year-old Great Basin Bristlecone Pine and the 2,000 year-old brain coral.

Agnieszka and Jo also worked with filmmaker Aaron Burton, materials scientist Dr Sepidar Sayyar, and climate scientist Professor Helen McGregor.

Alchemical Worlds: Projections has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.
