Gesture and music are two inseparable concepts that contemporary composers have been trying to enhance through the new possibilities offered by multimedia technologies. In this particular program curated by GRAME, different works are presented in order to show the actual possibilities and some of the latest evolutions.

With Thierry de Mey ’s Light Music (2004), we explore the concept of gesture in music through the movement-sensitive device used by a soloist to produce musical sequences and visual effects.

More recent (2014), Xavier Garcia ’s compositions Mephisto and Belzebuth initiate the use of smartphones into the creative process of music interpretation, and open new perspectives through the participatory dimension of the concerts, since each mobile phone becomes a musical instrument, actioned by the movements of the artists and audience. (links for the installation of the Smart-Faust app – available on iOS and Android – will be provided to the audience prior to the performance)

Lifelines, one of Garcia’s latest works (2015), bridges electronic music and video, with a synthesizer generating both sounds and images at the same time, with some various outputs – sometimes similar, sometimes different – whose ambiguity creates the interest.

GRAME was founded in 1982 by Pierre-Alain Jaffrennou and James Giroudon, and certified as a “National Centre for Musical Creation” in 1996. Its mission is to promote the conception, production and distribution of new works, to contribute to the development of scientific and musical research, and to construct vital bridges between creative artists and the public.

動態與音樂是兩個密不可分的概念，在多媒體科技日新月異之下，當代作曲家一直致力探索當中的潛力。是次演出由里昂GRAME國家藝術中心策劃，透過演奏下列作品，為香港觀眾呈現動態音樂的最新發展，領略其無限可能。

今次演奏的作品包括法國作曲家堤希．德梅2004年的〈輕音樂〉，演奏者利用一座動態感測器，以動作創造出音樂與視覺效果，探究動態在音樂創作中的角色。

較新近的作品，則有西維爾．加斯亞2014年的〈梅菲斯特〉及〈別西卜〉；這兩首作品創下先河，以智能手機演奏，令音樂演繹過程成為創作的一環。演出現場每一部智能手機，均可變為樂器，觀眾可與音樂家一同以動態奏出樂章，開創出演奏會現場參與的新模式。（主辦單位將於開場前，為觀眾提供Smart-Faust手機應用程式的下載方式，同時支援iOS及Andriod手機）

加斯亞2015年最新作品〈生命線〉，則連結電子音樂與影像，以一座合成器同時輸出的聲音及影像畫面，時而應和、時而分歧，自曖昧不明中奏出意蘊。

里昂GRAME國家音樂創作中心簡介

GRAME由皮耶-阿倫．賈佛努及詹姆．茲赫頓於1982年創立，1996年獲認證為國家音樂創作中心，使命為推動創新音樂作品的創造、製作及傳播，致力發展科學及音樂研究及為公眾與創意藝術家建立交流橋樑。
