Microcosm || Magnetism

As artists, we see our individual practices as miniature worlds – microcosms – that reflect our views of the world at large. Yet as we create work within a community, these diverse microcosms attract one another with a silent force – a magnetism – so that our worlds influence each other in symbiosis. Our student community, as such, is also a microcosm of sorts. Our works are our worlds, and as we interact with one another our worlds crash into each other, and in that crash is a clearing. According to the postmodernist Jean-Francois Lyotard, the mind must be emptied or suspended in order to think and, as such, one must suffer to think. In his words, “…you make a little clearing where the penumbra of an almost-given will be able to enter and modify its contour.” It is in this clearing that the artists in this show suffer to think, where the contours of our worlds are modified, emerging anew. The works showcased in this exhibition include film, animation, sound art, installation, interactive media, performance art, and more. Each artwork is a demonstration of the thinking and reshaping each student has undertaken as part of the student body at the School of Creative Media.

微宇宙 || 磁引力

作為藝術家，我們把自己的獨立創作視為微觀世界——「微宇宙」——反映了我們對世界的整體認識。然而我們在一個群體中創作，不同的微宇宙以沉靜的力量互相牽引著——「磁引力」——所以我們的微觀世界以共生的姿態互相影響著。我們這一學生群體，同樣地，是一個包羅萬有的微宇宙。我們的作品就是我們的世界，我們互相交流的同時，我們的世界也互相碰撞，在碰撞中我們得到澄明。後現代主義哲學家李歐塔（Jean-Francois Lyotard）認為，精神必須被清空或暫停才能思考，同樣地，人必須歷經痛苦才能思考。他說：“……在幾乎可得的半影得以進入并修正它的概要之處，你得到一點澄明。”正是在這一澄明中，參與這個展覽的藝術家們，歷經痛苦去思考，我們世界的概要得到修正，獲得新生。是次展覽的作品包括電影、動畫、聲音藝術、裝置、互動藝術、表演藝術等。每一件作品都是一個證明，證明我們作為創意媒體學院一份子，所經歷的思索和鍛煉。
