Our BScCM Graduate Is An Olympic Medalist.

Lau Mo Sheung Grace, BSc Creative Media graduate, is the recipient of our 1st SCM Distinguished Alumni Award (2021).

Grace won the bronze medal for Hong Kong in the Karate Women’s Kata at the Tokyo Olympics on 5 August 2021. 

Grace is a female karate specialist who began learning karate, boxing and taekwondo at the age of 11 and was later selected for the Hong Kong team. She was admitted to the School of Creative Media where she studied for a BSc Creative Media through CityU's Student Athletes Admission Scheme and was awarded the Dr Herman Hu Outstanding Sports Talents Scholarship. During her time at CityU, Grace led the university’s women's karate team to clinch the gold medal in the USFHK competition and earned the honour of USFHK Sportswoman of the Year in both 2014 and 2015.

Subsequently, Grace represented Hong Kong as a full-time athlete to take part in various international tournaments. In August 2018, Grace made her debut in the Asian Games, where she won the bronze medal in the karate women's individual kata, becoming the first Hong Kong athlete to win a medal in the event. In November of the same year, she won a bronze medal at the World Karate Championships, marking another first for Hong Kong. In 2020, she ranked 4th in the Karate 1 Premier League, which granted her an entry ticket to the Tokyo Olympics.
