About the Workshop
This hands-on electronics workshop will build a tape-based sound machine and use it as a way to rediscover sound art history. Participants will construct the device with magnetic tape heads, an electret microphone, an audio amplifier, and a motor drive circuit. After soldering and assembly, we will explore tape techniques such as capturing and manipulating sounds with tape, creating phase-shifting loops and echo sound effects, experimenting with feedback, and using the tape head as an instrument.
Target Audience
Open to all SCM students. Electronics experience is required. Suitable for beginners who already have basic electronics knowledge and are interested in DIY electronics and sound art.
Workshop Requirements
1. Be ON TIME.
2. Be creative, mindful and concentrated.
3. Be open to experiment.
