CHAN Ka Lam 陳嘉琳 | 2025 | 3’24" | 2D animation

Hong Kong Next Generation Award in Animation at the Hong Kong Metropolitan University's World University Animation Awards (WUAA) 2025

This 2D animation is about a girl who gradually becomes unable to distinguish between illusion and reality. In the end, however, the illusion seems to become real.

2. Deep White Journey 《深白遊記》

CHAU Chit Ying 周捷瀅 | 2025 | 7’17” | 2D animation

Louis Koo Creative Media Awards 2024/25

Deep White Journey is a short (7-minute) 2D hand-drawn animation. Set against the backdrop of death and obstacles, it explores love and the memories of a family. The main themes are travel and photography. The story follows Shiro, a girl who enjoys photography but suffers from a strange illness, and her father, Arsene, as they travel to the Red Leaves Forest. This is a place where Shiro's late mother's soul and memories are kept in an unopened photo album. The animation is meant to illustrate the strength of memories, even when the future is uncertain and life is fragile. It encourages people to enjoy the present moment with the people around them.

3. Catch a Star

WONG Chung Ki Kiki 黃頌棋 | 2025 | 3’31” | 3D animation

Nia is a naive and overprotective stars keeper. She chases an escaping immature star. As she navigates the facility, she uncovers the true nature of her work, leading her to question her role and find the courage to defy authority.

4. Alone Together - Synapse Link

FENG Weijia 丰瑋伽 | 2025 | 13’32" | 3D animation

Louis Koo Creative Media Awards 2024/25

In the internet era, information technology brings people the convenience of communication, but it also weakens their ability to communicate face-to-face. Texting, social media, and games make people feel like their relationships are stronger. But in reality, we are becoming increasingly anxious and lonely. If this continues, will technology in the future no longer require face-to-face communication, instead relying on an implanted device called a "Synapse Link"? Animation is the best way to visualise this idea and will use AI technology for design and modeling. By thinking about the current state of relationships between people, we are exploring a vision of future society.

5. Magical Girl 《魔法少女》

TSOI Yuk Yan Sally | 2019 | 4’45" | 2D animation

As we grow up, we learn to earn a living and often forget the precious dreams we once held. Even with hard work, we may not achieve what we desire, as some limitations are beyond our control. In this story, the girl is inspired by a cartoon and dreams of becoming a ballerina. Born with short legs, she faces ridicule from others. Yet, she works hard to fight for her dream.
