The Master of Fine Arts in Creative Media (MFACM) programme is the first of its kind in Hong Kong. The MFA is a degree with a long history in many prestigious European and North American universities and is commonly regarded as the highest level of academic qualification available in the creative arts. While the MFA once was primarily associated with the traditional fine arts, such as music and painting, it has since the 1960s become the standard “terminal” degree in programmes specializing in more technology-intensive creative fields, including computer-based media production.

Important Note
- Applicants should note that applications for the MFACM programme are processed on a rolling basis. The review of applications continues until all places have been filled. Most admission offers are made between December and May. If your application is successful, you will receive an email notification prompting you to review the offer in the application account on the University’s online admissions system. If your application is unsuccessful, no notification will be issued until the end of the admissions cycle. Therefore, the School of Creative Media will not respond to individual enquiries regarding application status updates.
- While you can indicate your priority for the 3 study paths mentioned
above, please note that you should submit a portfolio/complete the
survey if you would like your application to be considered under other
study paths in case your first choice is unsuccessful. Otherwise your
application will not be further considered if it is unsuccessful for the
chosen study path. You will need to, and can only, submit a new
application in future if you wish to re-apply for the MFACM programme.
For example, if you indicate HCI Stream as your first choice and the
other two paths (i.e. Main (Without Stream Specification) and Games
Stream) as your second and third choices, and do not submit a portfolio,
but your application is unsuccessful, your application will not be
further reviewed.
- We strongly advise applicants not to engage third-party agencies or paid services to prepare your statements of interest or portfolios. With extensive experience reviewing thousands of applications, our admissions team is well equipped to discern materials produced by external intermediaries. Furthermore, in addition to the statement of interest and portfolio, we accord significant consideration to objective indicators—including academic performance (GPA or average mark), the rigour of your academic curriculum, and relevant professional experiences such as internships—in conducting our holistic evaluation.
