GUI Ren is a sound artist, researcher, musician and curator whose interdisciplinary practice explores the relationships between sound, space, identity and gender. Holding a PhD in Sound Art from the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong, GUI Ren works across soundscape composition, participatory soundwalks, spatial installations, live performance and feminist curatorial approaches.

In 2025, she curated and exhibited in Sonic Transitions: Auditory Stories of Female New Immigrants in Hong Kong, supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. The exhibition brought together sound-based works by female artists exploring themes of memory, migration, movement and belonging.

Alongside her sound art and research practice, GUI Ren is a singer-songwriter and the lead vocalist of the Hong Kong-based band CheeseIce, working across alternative pop and experimental sound. She has participated in art projects including Sounding Tomorrow 2023 (co-organised with the Hong Kong Creation Orchestra), DAT/ACT Exhibition 2022 (Hong Kong), and Sound Envelope 2021 (Hong Kong/London). Her research has been featured in the edited volume Sonic (under)Currents and Currencies (East and Southeast Asian Popular Music Press, 2022). She has presented her work at international conferences including The 5th Kyoto Conference on Arts, Media & Culture (2024), In the Field 2 (2024), IASPM XXI (2022), MuSA (2022) and IsaScience (2023).
