Another World Directed by BACM Graduate Ng Kai-chung Tommy Won Best Animated Feature at the 62nd Golden Horse Awards

Ng Kai-chung Tommy, a graduate of BACM, has won the Best Animated Feature at the 62nd Golden Horse Awards for his film Another World [世外], marking a remarkable milestone for Hong Kong animation. The film was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Film Score at the festival.

Another World is adapted from Japanese author Saijo Naoki’s novel Sennen Oni. Set in a liminal space between life and the afterlife, the film explores themes of memory, release and spiritual transition.

The project originated as a 14-minute short film in 2019, created by Tommy and his team at Point Five Creations. The short quickly garnered both local and international acclaim, receiving numerous awards including the 21st Digicon6 Asia Grand Prize, the 25th ifva Awards Gold Award (Animation Category), as well as recognition from festivals across the United States, Canada and Chinese Mainland. Building on this momentum, the work was developed into a feature-length production, receiving HK$5.6 million in financing from the Hong Kong Film Development Fund’s Film Production Financing Scheme in 2020, followed by co-production support from overseas and Chinese Mainland.
Completed in 2025 with a running time of 111 minutes, the film was selected for the Midnight Special programme at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival which is widely regarded as the world’s most prestigious animation festival.

Another World also features contributions from other SCM alumni, including Wong Fei-pang (BACM graduate and PhD student) as the editor and Ng Tsz-Chin (BACM graduate) as the animation director.

Congratulations to our alumni and the entire creative team for their hard work and achievement!
