19th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards

 

Congratulations to Prof. Stanley Kwan Kam-pang, Professor of Practice at SCM, and alumni Chris Cheung Hon-him and Kachi Chan who have been honored at the 19th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council on 10 June 2025. 

Prof. Stanley Kwan received the Award for Outstanding Contribution in Arts for his transformative work in Chinese cinema, known for films like Rouge 《胭脂扣》 (8th Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Director and Best Film) and Lan Yu 《藍宇》 (38th Golden Horse Award for Best Director). Renowned for his delicate female perspective, he began his career at TVB in 1976, directed his debut film Women 《女人心》in 1985, and now mentors young filmmakers across Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan while teaching courses on directing and scriptwriting at SCM.

Chris Cheung Hon-him (aka h0nh1m), a BA in Creative Media graduate, was named Artist of the Year (Media Arts) for his innovative media art installations blending Eastern and Western philosophy with cutting-edge technology. His RadianceScape project, launched in 2014, earned acclaim at Ars Electronica, Sónar Festival and WRO Art Biennale, winning the ZKM Giga-Hertz Award in 2020. Chris founded the artist collectives XCEPT and XCEED, with works showcased globally, and collaborated recently with M+, the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the Hong Kong Dance Company.  He was conferred the 4th SCM Distinguished Alumni Award in 2024, in recognition of his artistic achievements, as well as his service to the School.

Kachi Chan, also a BA in Creative Media graduate, received the Award for Young Artist (Media Arts). A multimedia artist, a researcher and an educator,  he excels in using  computational design, robotics, and digital realities to reinterpret cultural narratives and explore societal issues. His research-driven art was featured at Ars Electronica, ISEA, SIGGRAPH and Art Basel, and he has received an Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica, the Bartlett Medal and other prestigious awards. Kachi is currently an Assistant Professor at the Hong Kong Baptist University.

These awards highlight the creativity and excellence of SCM’s faculty and alumni. We are immensely proud and look forward to their continued success.
