About Carla Chan
Carla lives and works in Paris, Berlin and Hong Kong where she obtained her bachelor degree in Creative Media from the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong.
She works with a variety of media, including video, installation, photography and printmaking. Much like the never-ending development of new technology, Carla considers media art as a medium with infinite possibilities for artistic expressions.
Minimal in style, Carla’s works blend physical and digital elements into a hybrid form of materiality, blurring the boundaries between reality and illusion, figure and abstraction. Fusing the poetics in both nature and digital technologies, her work creates a virtual space for contemplation and often plays with the ambiguity between forms of nature and the digital realm.
Chan’s selected solo exhibitions include “Space between the light glows” Frieze, New York and Art Basel, Hong Kong (2021); “To the end for the beginning, the heaviness of my heart” at Goethe-Institut, Hong Kong (2020); “To Another side of the Moon” at Lobe Block, Berlin, Germany (2018); “The Ashes of snow” at Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art, Copenhagen, Denmark (2017). Her group exhibitions include “Art Machines” at The Indra and Harry Banga Gallery, Hong Kong (2020); “Relentless Melt No.11(ITFS)” at Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film, Stuttgart, Germany (2019); “Artificial Landscape” at Videotage, Hong Kong (2019); Taipei Dangdai Art Fair (2019); “Liminal Encounters” at Asia Society (2018), Hong Kong and “Lumen matrix” at Today Art Museum, Beijing, China (2017).
