Dr Rhys Jones holds a PhD in videogame fandom from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, an MSc in Multimedia Entertainment Technology at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and a BA in Film and Literature from the University of Warwick. He has been teaching videogame and media related courses for over 10 years in addition to supervising numerous student game projects.

His research interests are related to digital fandoms that arise around videogames that are not directly tied to videogames such as Let’s Plays and Livestreaming. In addition, he is interested in the local history and depictions of Hong Kong itself in videogames. He has worked and developed both commercial and educational videogames for private and non-profit entities and has also been an organiser and supporter of the Global Game Jam Hong Kong site since 2015.
