Ng Kai-chung Tommy Received the 6th SCM Distinguished Alumni Award

The Selection Committee for the Sixth SCM Distinguished Alumni Award has conferred the honour on BACM graduate Ng Kai-chung Tommy, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Hong Kong animation industry and his dedicated service to the School.

As Tommy was not able to attend the School Commencement on 15 June 2026, he shared his gratitude alongside an inspiring message for the graduating class of 2026 via a pre-recorded video.

“I would like to thank the faculty, who enabled us to go beyond focusing solely on animation. They provided us with the freedom to explore various art mediums during our learning journey. We gained far more than just drawing skills; we learnt cinematography, lighting techniques, music composition, sound design and more. This experience taught me that true creativity is found in the fusion of many different art forms.…SCM is more than just a place of learning; it is a supportive community where we can freely exchange ideas, grow together, and offer mutual support,” said Tommy in the video.

Tommy is an accomplished animation artist and the founder of Point Five Creations. He achieved a monumental milestone for local cinema when his debut feature-length animated film, Another World [世外] (2025), won Best Animated Feature at the 62nd Golden Horse Awards. The film also earned him nominations for Best Director and Best New Director at the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards. By December 2025, Another World had successfully grossed over HK$15 million at the box office, becoming the year’s top-grossing local film.

Before his feature film success, Tommy directed several acclaimed animated shorts, including the original short film version of Another World (2019) which won the prestigious Japan TBS DigiCon6 ASIA Awards Grand Prize, Shear Marks (2015), and Tale of Rebellious Stone (2013).

Beyond directing his own films, Tommy lent his animation expertise to major projects like Implosion: ZERO DAY (2017) and helmed the animation sequences for the feature film Zombiology: Enjoy Yourself Tonight [今晚打喪屍] (2017).

Beyond narrative filmmaking, his studio, Point Five Creations, is highly active in commercial animation, having created prominent works for global brands and franchises such as Assassin's Creed: Origins and Nike Air Max.
