About the Workshop
Glass offers rich creative possibilities for new-media art. Its transparency, translucency, and reflective qualities make it an engaging surface and vessel for projection mapping, embedded LEDs, and augmented- or virtual-reality imagery. Increasingly, media artists are using glassblowing and lampworking techniques to integrate electronics, sensors, light, and sound into their work, bridging traditional craft and emerging technologies.
In this workshop, students will be divided into three groups of four. Each group will rotate through both glassblowing and lampworking sessions. During the glassblowing session, students will take turns working individually at the furnace. In the lampworking session, all four students in each group will work simultaneously.
Workshop Requirements
Participants must wear closed-toe, and avoid loose or flowing clothing. Long hair should be tied back. These are standard safety measures for working with hot glass.
