LISF is a research Lab exploring the intersection of media art and new financial technologies (algorithmic trading, cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology), and more generally the complex dynamics of financialization. LISF is building a cutting-edge network of artists, researchers, technologists, critical theorists, intellectuals and academics who situate themselves at the crossings of media art, new financial technologies, the politics of finance, cultural studies, critical theory and philosophies of technology.

In the future, members of the lab will work towards organising regular international strategic symposium to gather international specialists exploring the intersection of art, technology and new forms of value creation. A secondary mission of the LISF is to bring the insights of its research, interventions and art projects to the School of Creative Media's curriculum.

Current research activities include

  • identifying and mapping relevant artists and artworks
  • developing a categorisation of artistic tools, techniques and strategies
  • identifying key conferences and exhibitions where new work is disseminated
  • identifying key scholars at work on the theorization of these topics

The project benefits directly from the complementary expertise of the members of the Laboratory for Interventions in Speculative Finance. This faculty research team consists of Dr. Damien Charrieras (PI), Dr. Daniel Howe (Co-I), and Prof. Maurice Benayoun (Co-I), along with Yik Tung Ho as research assistant. The members of LISF bring expertise in art and technology, critical theory, philosophies of technology, and technical practice to these new financial technologies.
