AIMS OF MINOR

The School of Creative Media offers both a practical training in digital media and a critical reflection upon the role of technology in mediating our understanding of the world. Our goal is to produce thinking digital media artists, designers, and technologists.

The Minor programme in Creative Media provides students both with a practical engagement in one or more of fields of creative media--animation, gaming, sound, photography and cinema, and new media--and with classes that examine the relationship between culture, society and new technologies.

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES OF MINOR

Upon successful completion of the Minor, students should be able to:

  • Identify and read with understanding the social implications of digital materials that define our environment.

  • Understand the methodologies deployed by the makers of creative media.

  • Possess rudimentary operational understanding of planning, techniques and skills possessed by those professions working in the field. This will enable more efficient and effective interaction with such workers in future work environments.

STRUCTURE OF THE MINOR PROGRAMME

Students should take 1 required course of 3 credit units and elective courses of 12 credit units, with a total load of 15 credit units for this Minor in Creative Media.

2015/16 and thereafter

ELIGIBILITY, APPLICATION AND OTHER PROCEDURES

This Minor programme is open for non-SCM undergraduate students. Approval from the students’ home departments and the School are required. Students who wish to enrol in the Minor programme should apply via AIMS during the period specified by the University in each semester. If students subsequently wish to withdraw from the Minor programme, they should submit their request to drop the Minor via AIMS. Please refer to the Academic Regulations and Records Office website for more details on adding/dropping a Minor.

REQUEST FOR THE MINOR AWARD

The School will consider granting the minor award for students who have completed the Minor course requirement. All courses completed within the Minor curriculum, including failures, will be counted towards the calculation of CGPA for the Minor. Students must obtain a CGPA of 1.70 or above in order to qualify for the Minor award.
