Retinal Optics Art Research (ROAR) is a lab founded and directed by Dr. Max Hattler under the umbrella of ACIM, School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. The aim of the lab is to investigate and develop ‘expanded’ stereoscopic processes within artistic practices which subvert, challenge, or expand traditional stereoscopic imaging – the normative practice of emulating three-dimensional human vision – to offer new binocular perceptions and aesthetics. Research outputs include several conference presentations, lectures and written publications as well as creative works including films, interactive works and audiovisual performances.
