The photographic process in itself is a ritual full of thoughts. From the very moment of shutter-pressing to the formation of image, the whole course of transformation is initiated by the conscious decision of the artist.

Along with the maturity of photography as a technology and medium, more thoughts have gradually been liberated by the efficiency and proficiency of camera usage. An artist, therefore, has more room to create and generate; behind the process of image-making is an exposition of intentionality - a presentation of concept and thoughts; a bigger picture is thus generated, one that’s of the mind.

“Thoughts” is a joint photographic exhibition of three young artists, namely Au Tze Long, Ziki Cheung Kit Yin and Joseph Leung Mong Sum. While they all employ photography as the base medium of their practices, distinctive perspectives are embedded in each of their works. Through this exhibition, they wish to present what they see, but more importantly, what they think.

This exhibition is supported by The Julian Lee Asia One Photographic Awards, which were first established in 2014 as the Julian Lee Photographic Scholarships. They are named after the late Mr Julian Lee, former Associate Professor in the SCM at CityU. Asia One Communications Group installed a new fund to the scholarship in 2015, and the scholarship was renamed as the Julian Lee Asia One Photographic Awards. The awards help talented students from School of Creative Media to organise their own photographic exhibitions and showcase their creative work.
