Since September 2020, Guangzhou Greater Bay Area Virtual Reality Research Institute
(BayVR) has established a formal collaboration with City University of Hong Kong’s School
of Creative Media and its Extended Reality Lab. Additionally, BayVR has appointed Dr.
Christian Sandor as its Augmented Reality Evangelist.

BayVR was founded in January 2019, jointly by “Guangzhou Gravitational Wave
Technology Innovation Development Co., Ltd.” and “Huangpu Culture Group”, under the
“Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and
“Development Plan for Digital Economy Industry in Guangdong Province”.
The Chief Scientist and Dean of BayVR, as well as the leader of the National Key Discipline
of Optical Engineering at Beijing Institute of Technology, Professor Yongtian Wang has long
been engaged in the study of interdisciplinary fields such as virtual and augmented reality,
and is one of the pioneers in the field of optical augmented reality and virtual reality
technology in China.

The mission of BayVR is to build a infrastructural supporting platform for industry
development, focuses on the fundamental layout of Guangdong's virtual reality field. The
support platform shall be built regarding four main aspects that meets the various needs in the
industry: scientific research, standard construction, digital assets, and technology sharing.
By exerting the traction effect of these major platform projects, BayAR hopes to attract
world-class virtual reality talents and innovation from Hong Kong, Macao and around the
world, to make Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area a national virtual reality
talent breeding ground.
