Background

Kay Mei Ling Beadman is a visual artist and researcher working across painting, text, video and installation. Her PhD research explores mixed race identity formation in Hong Kong, its embodiment and visual representation. She received her MFA from RMIT University, Australia and her BFA from the University of Reading, UK. She is a co-founder of artist-run initiative Hidden Space. Her artwork has been exhibited in Australia, China, HK, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka and the UK.

She has also worked in the fields of conservation and language education. She was senior conservator at Lincoln Cathedral in the UK, specialising in the conservation of medieval architectural sculpture and was involved with research into the application of in-situ laser cleaning on the cathedral façade. In education, she worked for the Hong Kong Education Bureau developing English language literacy programmes and in-service teacher training.
