Direct applicants

Major-based or School-based Admission

  • Applicants possessing 13 years' of pre-University educational background, IB or GCEAL qualification apply for School-based or Major-based admission
  • Graduation requirement: 120 – 144 credits / 90 - 114 credits
  • Normal Study Period: 4 years / 3 years

  • Applicants with 12 years' of pre-University educational background will be admitted to a full 4-year degree

How can I apply for admission to SCM Degrees?

  • For non-JUPAS (i.e. direct) applicants, please submit applications via CityU on-line admission system (see CityU home page at http://www.admo.cityu.edu.hk/apply). CityU application period for direct applicants normally runs from November to February of the following year.

  • For JUPAS applicants, follow JUPAS’s application guidelines and schedules.

Part II: Q&A for HKDSE Students

What are the general admission requirements? 

  • Minimum Entrance Requirements for CityU & SCM

    1. 4 core subjects [English (Level 3), Chinese (Level 3), Math (Level 2), Liberal Studies (Level 2)] + 1 elective (Level 3)
    2. Applied Learning subjects are not counted as electives.

Do I need to submit portfolio?

  • Yes, all applicants are strongle recommended to submit portfolio via SCM’s on-line portfolio system. See “Important Dates” for the submission period.

Do I need to attend an admission interview?

  • Yes, some HKDSE candidates will be invited for interview in July 2014. SCM may admit candidates with outstanding portfolios and examination scores without going through an interview process.

  • Interviews are arranged on individual basis to gauge candidates’ creative potential. A short written test before the interview may also be arranged.

  • Candidates who are absent from the interviews will normally NOT be considered for admissions.

What are average examination scores required for admission?

  • The average examination scores of the admitted applicants vary year from year, depending on the results of applicants’ public examinations in the same year of admission. Strong emphasis is placed on academic performance, language proficiency and creativity of applicants.

Do I need to put SCM in Band A (JUPAS)?

  • To put SCM (JS1041) in Band A shows that you are very interested in studying the programme. In the event that applicants have the same credentials, applications placing SCM in Band A will usually have a higher priority.

Part III: Q&A for Direct Applicants (IVE / AD / HKALE / Non-local Qualification / Local International School Applicants / Mainland Applicants)

What is the percentage of non-JUPAS entrants to your undergraduate programmes? 

  • About 20% of our intake quota is for non-JUPAS applicants. The figure may vary slightly by year and by programme depending on the results of applicants’ public examinations in the same year of admission. Strong emphasis has been placed on the creativity of applicants.

What are the entrance requirements for direct applicants?

  • Entrance Requirements for BACM/BScCM/BAS (IVE/AD applicants)

    1. Entry to Year 2 (Advanced Standing I): Satisfactory completion of Year 1 Associate Degree / Higher Diploma with minimum overall GPA of 3.0 or equivalent
    2. Articulate to Year 3 (Advanced Standing II): Graduated from a recognized Associate Degree / Higher Diploma award with a CGPA of >3.0 (or equivalent overall mark), or a credit award.
  • Minimum Entrance Requirements for BACM/BScCM/BAS (HKALE applicants)

    1. 2 A-level Subjects + passes in AS Level Use of English and Chinese Language & Culture
    2. 1 A-level Subject + 2 AS-level Subjects (other than English & Chinese) + passes in AS Level Use of English and Chinese Language & Culture
    3. Repeated HKALE subjects are accepted and the best results will be counted for the entrance requirements
  • Minimum Entrance Requirements for BACM/BScCM/BAS/SCM (Non-local qualification and local international school applicants)

    1. As a general guideline, university entry qualifications obtained after 12 or 13 years of schooling (primary and secondary) are usually recognized.

Do I need to submit portfolio?

  • Yes, all direct applicants are strongly recommended to submit portfolio via SCM’s on-line portfolio system (on-line system is not applicable to international applicants and Mainland applicants via the NUEE Scheme). See “Important Dates” for the submission period.

Do I need to attend admission interview?

  • Yes for direct applicants seeking admissions to SCM in the 2014/15 Academic Year.

  • Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed individually in April/May 2014 to gauge their creative potential. A short written test may also be arranged before the interview.

  • If an applicant applies for more than one SCM programme, normally he/she will be invited to attend one interview only, if required.

  • Candidates who are absent from the interview will normally NOT be considered for admissions.

  • For direct applicants who are studying overseas, telephone interviews may be arranged.
