How can I apply for admission to SCM Degrees?

  • For non-JUPAS (i.e. direct) applicants, please submit applications via CityU on-line admission system (see CityU home page at http://www.admo.cityu.edu.hk/apply). CityU application period for direct applicants normally runs from November to February of the following year.

  • For JUPAS applicants, follow JUPAS’s application guidelines and schedules.

Part II: Q&A for HKDSE Students

What are the general admission requirements? 

  • Minimum Entrance Requirements for CityU & SCM

    1. 4 core subjects [English (3), Chinese (3), Math (2), Liberal Studies (2)] + 1 electives (3)
    2. Applied Learning subjects are not counted as electives.

Would CityU/SCM consider OEA & non-academic performance?

  • Yes, the School may refer to the following information provided by JUPAS in offering admission place, in additional to HKDSE exam scores:

    1. School Reference Report (SSR) including academic performance in secondary schools
    2. Other Experiences and Achievements (OEA) form
    3. Student Learning Profile (SLP), if provided by students

Do I need to submit portfolio?

  • Yes. If you are a JUPAS HKDSE applicant listing the School as your Band A or B choice, you are requested to submit portfolio via an on-line portfolio system in May (see “Important Dates“).

Do I need to attend an admission interview?

  • Yes, some HKDSE candidates will be invited for interview in July 2013.

  • Individual interviews will be arranged to gauge candidates’ creative potential. A short written/aptitude test before the interview may also be arranged.

  • Candidates who are absent from the interviews will normally NOT be considered for admissions.

What are average examination scores required for admission?

  • The average exam scores of the admitted applicants varies year from year, depending on the results of applicants’ public exam in the same year of admission. Strong emphasis is placed on academic performance, language proficiency and creativity of applicants.

Do I need to put SCM in Band A (JUPAS)?

  • To put SCM (JS1041) in Band A can show that you are very much interested in studying the programme. But SCM may select some applicants who put SCM in Band B, depending on various circumstances.

  • In the event that applicants have the same credentials, applications with Band A choice will usually have a higher ranking.

Part III: Q&A for Direct Applicants (IVE/AD/HKALE/Non-local Qualification/Mainland applicants)

What is the percentage of JUPAS entrants to your undergraduate programmes, as compared with non-JUPAS entrants? 

  • About 20% of our intake quota is for non-JUPAS applicants. The figure may vary slightly by year and by programme depending on the results of applicants’ public exam in the same year of admission. Strong emphasis has been placed on the creativity of applicants.

What are the entrance requirements for direct applicants?

  • Entrance Requirements for BACM/BScCM (IVE/AD applications)

    1. Articulation to Year 2: Graduated from a recognized Associate Degree / Higher Diploma award with a CGPA of >3.0 (or equivalent overall mark), or a credit award.
    2. Entry to Year 1: Satisfactory completion of Year 1 Associate Degree / Higher Diploma with minimum overall GPA of 3.0 or equivalent (for admission to year 1)
    3. Additional requirement for BScCM: “D” in Mathematics or “E” in Additional Mathematics (HKCEE)
  • Minimum Entrance Requirements for BACM/BScCM/BAS (HKALE applicants)

    1. 2 A-level Subjects + passes in AS Level Chin & Eng
    2. 1 A-level Subject + 2 AS-level Subjects (other than English & Chinese) + passes in AS Level Chin & Eng
    3. Additional requirement for BScCM: Grade “D” in Mathematics or Grade “E” in Additional Mathematics (HKCEE)
    4. Repeated HKALE subjects are accepted and the best results will be counted for the entrance requirements
  • Minimum Entrance Requirements for BACM/BScCM/BAS/SCM (non-local qualification applicants)

    1. As a general guideline, university entry qualifications, obtained after 12 or 13 years of schooling (primary and secondary), are usually recognized.

Do I need to attend admission interview?

  • YES for direct applicants seeking admissions to SCM in the 2013/14 Academic Year.

  • Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed individually in May/June 2013 to gauge their creative potential. A short written/aptitude test may also be arranged before the interview.

  • If an applicant applies for more than 1 SCM programmes, normally he/she will be invited to attend one interview only, if required.

  • Candidates who are absent from the interview will normally NOT be considered for admissions.

  • For direct applicants who are studying overseas, telephone interviews may be arranged.
